Ultraljubičaste zrake (UV) imaju valnu duljinu od 10 do 400nm i nisu u vidljivom dijelu spektra, koji počinje od 400nm. Međutim film je osjetljiv i na taj dio spektra pa je moguće njegovo negativno djelovanje na fotografiju. Utjecaj UV zraka najčešće se događa kod fotografiranja pejzaža, u planinama, na snijegu ili na moru te kod fotografiranja po maglovitom danu. Efekt djelovanja UV zraka očituje se u gubitku jasnoće u daljnjim planovima fotografije, a fotografija u boji će dobiti plavkasti ton. Da bi se ova pojava spriječila, ispred prednje leće objektiva postavlja se UV filter. UV filter je potpuno proziran, izrađen je od posebne vrste stakla i najčešće ga nakon prve montaže više niti ne skidamo s objektiva.
