The TEP01 from StudioKing is a teleprompter that allows you to read text while looking into the lens of your camera. This way it seems as if you know the text by heart, while in reality you see the text scroll by on a mirrored plate. This technique is used worldwide on television and online. You can now start using your own teleprompter very inexpensively, using your smartphone. The TEP01 works for filming with cameras and smartphones.
Application TEP01

When you want to narrate a small or large amount of text fluently into the camera at once, the TEP01 is a good and inexpensive tool. You make your viewers wiser with a large amount of information, which you can prepare in advance by writing out the text. Teleprompters are also used for singing unfamiliar songs, so as not to forget the lyrics. Ideal for YouTube, instructional videos for companies and even telling a story on TV. The TEP01 is equipped with a coldshoe at the top. On this you can attach a microphone or LED lamp, some of which are recommended in the optional accessories section. Sometimes you may need a hotshoe adapter for this (see optional accessories). At the bottom of the TEP01 and its camera-bracket there is a 1/4" female thread. This makes the TEP01 suitable for any common light stand.
Recording with the TEP01

To start with, you choose whether you want to shoot with your smartphone or (DSLR-)camera. When using your smartphone, place one of the two felt plates on the TEP01, based on which best fits the shape of your smartphone's lenses. When using your camera, place the black cloth with Velcro on the TEP01. When shooting with your smartphone, place your camera and the TEP01 on the included camera rack. A mini ball head is included for the camera. You then insert the lens through the black cloth and tie it around the lens with the elastic. When using your smartphone, attach the smartphone clamp to the TEP01 and insert your smartphone. Smartphones with a width of up to about 8 cm are suitable for this. This is possible for both horizontal and vertical recordings (see the fifth picture).
Text playback with the TEP01

For text playback you need a smartphone. This cannot be the same smartphone you use to film. To play back text, grab the included remote control and turn it on. The remote control runs on a CR20232 battery (included). You connect via Bluetooth to your smartphone (iPhone and Android). This allows you to start the scrolling of the text while presenting and speed up/slow down the scrolling. You then clamp your smartphone into the clamp. Smartphones with a width of up to approximately 8 cm are suitable for this. To enable the scrolling of the text, various apps are available for iPhone and Android. Click on the link for an example. It is important that you switch on the 'mirror mode' of the app. This will display the text in mirror image on your smartphone, so it will be displayed correctly in the reflection.
